Unter definierten Bedingungen kann es durch Mikroorganismen in Wasser, Kohlendioxid und Biomasse zerlegt werden.
Es ist jedoch meist nur in industriellen Kompostieranlagen vollständig abbaubar, nicht im heimischen Garten.
Falsch entsorgt kann es Umweltprobleme verursachen und herkömmlichen Kunststoff nicht automatisch ersetzen.
